Random West Coast News

I was out of town until early Sunday morning and in bed sick. Saturday, Gary Butts was at the Nanka banquet so Ronda ran practice. She must have been pretty tough on everyone because I heard they were actually HAPPY to see Gary when he walked in the door.  Word is they preferred Angry Gary over Tough Ronda.

There will be no practice next Saturday, February 27 as almost everyone has decided to compete in the grappling tournament in Ontario. If you aren't doing either I expect you to get caught up and ahead on your schoolwork so there is NO excuse for missing practice in the future.

There WILL be practice as usual on Sunday, February 28th 11-  2 pm.

Crystal has put a lot of videos up on youtube from technical sessions at practice and from tournaments. I recommend that all of the players study those videos.

The coaches will be reviewing your tournament videos and be revising your individual programs over the next weeks.

Coach meeting (not secret, anyone can come)

All coaches are asked to please stick around after practice on Sunday for a brief meeting to discuss scheduled events. Everyone else is welcome to sit in on this meeting and give their input.  Topics for discussion

1. What tournaments we want to attend in the next 3 months.
2. A schedule for coaches - just so we know what days people will or won't be available.
3. March is visit another dojo month - which dojos we will visit and when. I'd like us to go to at least one dojo on a weeknight and maybe another on a Saturday afternoon.
4. Special events, for example a clinic in San Jose
5. Website -- people besides me should post to it.
6. Whatever other things I forgot.

I'd like to post all of that information here just so anyone who is in town visiting or simply curious can find out what is up.

WEST COAST JUDO TRAINING CENTER

WELCOME TO THE WEST COAST JUDO TRAINING CENTER BLOG & WEBSITE

After being asked repeatedly about our website which I never got around to setting up, I decided to finally put up a West Coast blog.

In brief, the West Coast Judo Training Center is supported by the United States Judo Association and the United States Judo Federation. It was the first regional training center in the country supported by these two organizations.
The training center is a place where athletes and coaches from throughout southern California come together every weekend to develop their skills, workout and share new knowledge with one another.

LOCATION

537 Vine St., West Covina, CA

PRACTICE TIMES
Practice times are Saturday 10-11:30 and 1-4 and Sunday 11-2.

We often attend events as a group, for example, the winter camp in San Diego, co-sponsored with California Judo, Inc. , Pacific Southwest Judo Association and San Shi Dojo. We just got back early this morning from the San Jose Buddhist Sensei Memorial Tournament.
