Open Conditioning Workout: March 24
Have you slacked off on your New Year's resolution to get in shape? Well, then, here is your chance to get back on track because we are going to have an open conditioning work out from 2 - 6 pm next Sunday, March 24th at Bellflower, California.
Let's face it, one of the problems of keeping to a conditioning program is that it can be like the movie Groundhog Day - the same day, repeated over and over.
For those who have asked me if it would benefit them to attend if they do not compete in judo but in grappling, jiu-jitsu or mixed martial arts, well, do you have to be in good condition to compete? If so, then you are welcome. You'll get in better shape and maybe get some ideas for new drills and exercises.
Schedule as follows:
2-2:15 Warm-up Gary Butts
2:15 - 3:40 Matwork conditioning drills (probably more fun than they sound, well, I guess that depends on how fun they sound to you) - AnnMaria De Mars
3:40 - 4 Randori! (That's free practice for you non-Japanese speakers)
4 -5:10 Gripping and throwing drills - Blinky Elizalde
5:10 - 5:30 Randori!
5:30 - 6 Conditioning exercises Gary Butts
We have had several people inquire if it is okay to only come for the first two hours or the last two hours if they have other commitments. The answer is, "Yes, it's fine." We understand some people have to work on Sunday (or may not be in shape to work on Monday if they train for four hours).
If you are a parent or spouse and want to get in shape, don't be shy, bring work out clothes and get on the mat for the warm-up or the conditioning exercises, or both. It beats running on the treadmill.
Location
Ogden Judo School
17034 Bellflower Blvd
Bellflower, California, 90706
Other notes:
Thank you very much to the Ogden Judo School for their hospitality today. I hope someone took pictures to post here.
NO PRACTICE on March 31st - it's Easter!

Getting Organized! March 17 Matwork Clinic
Hey, it's me, AnnMaria and I have taken over the blog for the day.
After all of the fun we had at the clinic with Ronda this Saturday, I was thinking of how to make the West Coast Judo Training Center more fun and awesome.
My first idea was to get a bit more organized. Often, the instructors know who is going to be where when but no one else does. So, here is our no longer secret plan for next Sunday.
Matwork Clinic on Sunday, March 17th
LOCATION:
Ogden Judo School
17034 Bellflower Blvd
Bellflower, California
ALL AGES ARE WELCOME (That's why we have several instructors, to accommodate different ages)
2-3:30 pm Matwork with yours truly. We'll cover arm bar drills from standing, from kesa gatame and the Ronda arm bar because, why not. We will also do some matwork games because I am immature.
3:30 -4:30 No-gi grappling with Gary and Crystal Butts with some randori thrown in
4:30 - 6 Matwork instruction with Blinky Elizalde, with some more randori thrown in.
Cost, as always - $10
After practice we will adjourn to a local restaurant where we can watch the UFC fights. There will be drinking. We will also put together a calendar for the next three months. Our plan is to have a monthly or bi-monthly clinic. Of which this is the first. Other weekends we will have available semi-private and private lessons. These should be arranged with the instructors. Anyone is welcome to come along to the planning meeting with us afterwards and give your input. You have to buy your own drinks.
